If you add carrots, the chowder will take on an unusual tint. I never include potatoes or parsley in my recipes. I use corn starch in place of flour. Makes it lovely and creamy, which my boyfriend and I prefer over the very runny version that results from following the original recipe exactly. Rather of garnishing individual plates with bacon pieces, I incorporate them into the chowder when I add the clams. I add two more cans of clams and often two additional bottles of juice.
