Several reviews elsewhere have favored rear-facing K seats over forward-facing J seats due to the slight increase in distance between the suite door and the aisle, but the door does an excellent job of preventing you from being bumped by passengers or flight attendants en route to/from the galley or restrooms. Finally, although I rode alone this time, there were a few families of three to four sat in pods with retractable privacy screens, which is a nice addition if you have little children. It was before the virus spread rampantly across New York and the rest of the United States — or at the very least, before hospitals started seeing a spike and before sufficient testing was available to confirm the spread. At the time, we were unaware of notions such as curve flattening and social distance. For more than a year, my wife and I had been preparing a large holiday to South Africa. Even though travel is a priority for both of us, and we've been fortunate to travel extensively, this trip was going to be exceptional, and a key item crossed off our lifelong bucket lists.

This was my first flight on the A350-900. The accommodation was spotless and had an air of spaciousness. The flight was uneventful and quite quiet. The pressurization system performed well, with just minor issues with ear pressure. The cabin service was helpful, and the meal was delivered well. I disliked the salt and pepper grinders because they were too tiny for me to hold and twist well. More concerning was the meal tray's placement, which stretched around 40cm away from me. Ships 171–199 are the oldest and will go first. The others are from the late 1990s/early 2000s, and so will remain for quite some time. The 767-400ERs were all delivered in 2000 or later, indicating that they will remain in service for some time. Indeed, 150-56 + 394 are scheduled to be the first to be phased out in an effort to standardize engine types throughout the fleet. These include ex-Gulf Air and ex-Asiana aircraft. Those seven aircraft should depart in 2019-20, when the first batch of A339s arrives. On transatlantic trips, the A339s should completely replace the 763s. In actuality, since the A339s are larger, they will operate on TATL routes that need greater capacity. Therefore, whether an A339 replaces a B763 or a B764 which in turn replaces an A763, nobody knows. Then 171-179 will be eliminated. These eight aircraft will be replaced in 2021 by the second batch of A339s ordered.
