Following that, Gambit and Sunfire launched an assault on Cable. Cable lost and was presumed dead by Gambit, although Cable was not really dead. The X-Men traveled to the Marauders in search of the infant Messiah after Wolverine wounded Gambit, and discovered it was really with Cable. Gambit was suspected of assisting Cable in capturing the infant after finding the Marauders had no clue where she was.
